Dewalt originated from one Raymond E. DeWalt who followed in his father's footsteps by holding mill and constructions jobs from the time he left school. However, he found that no matter what the job, he encountered high labor costs. To help cut these costs, he would occasionally rig up a machine to meet some special need. Thus Dewalt started his first woodworking radial arm machine for the purpose of providing more versatility in woodworking operations.
