Picking a quality chisel is a start, but caring for them - keeping them sharp and corrosion free is the real trick to a great working relationship with your chisels. Chisels come in a range of sizes and shapes and you can use them to work on stone, metal or wood. Not all chisels can cope with being driven by a mallet so pick carefully if this is what you intend to use the chisel for. Most chisels are made with a steel blade and some have straight edges whilst others have a bevelled edge to them. Straight blades tend to be tougher than bevelled bladed chisels but the bevel does make it easier to get to those hard to read places. Depending on the task at hand, chisels can be square, skewed or even round.
